Products
Enviva Materials sources three primary categories of biomass residues and transforms these waste materials into energy-rich biofuels that meet the demands of renewable energy applications. These three categories are:
Forest Residues. Enviva Materials sources woody residues from timber harvesting (e.g. bark, twigs, and leaves), fuel reduction, silvicultural operations, and municipal yard waste as well as byproducts from the wood products industry (e.g. sawdust). We process such biomass residues into energy-rich feedstock that meets our customers’ specifications for moisture content, product size, and thermal value.
Industrial Byproducts. Enviva Materials works closely with industrial partners to transform waste byproducts that are rich in bioenergy into usable biofuels for alternative energy applications. These activities not only reduce the amount of industrial waste sent to landfills in local communities but also provide a viable and sustainable green alternative to fossil fuels. Industrial wastes rich in bioenergy include paper sludge, bagasse, food processing residues, other such industrial by-products, and certain non-recyclable packaging materials.
Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris. Enviva Materials partners with recovery facilities and municipal landfills to reduce significantly the amount of C&D that is discarded in landfills. C&D wastes that are typically candidates under state law for transformation into biomass feedstock include lumber cut offs and other clean woods, cardboard, and other similar materials. We recover and process such C&D into energy-rich biomass feedstocks.
Commitment to Quality
Enviva Materials works closely with our customers to deliver high-quality biomass feedstock. We start by carefully assaying the thermal and physical properties of the various types of locally-and regionally-available biomass residues. We then evaluate the processing, storage, handling, and transportation costs of these candidate fuels as well as their impact on the performance of our customers’ renewable energy facilities. These activities result in a set of biomass feedstock specifications that enables the lowest total-solution cost.
Delivering the Quality
The ability to appropriately define and consistently deliver to specification is a crucial capability necessary to optimize the performance of a biomass renewable energy facility. Once a particular customer’s feedstock specifications are determined, we ensure the long-term supply of these fuels by engaging in long-term contracts with the identified biomass residue suppliers. From an ongoing operating perspective, we use proven testing methods and commercially-proven equipment and processes to transform the raw biomass residues into high-quality biomass feedstock. We continuously evaluate and, where beneficial, incorporate the latest technologies and best-practices to deliver the specified biomass feedstock reliably and consistently.
